Recommended Reading for Orthodox Christians (Updated, Halloween 2025)

Lately I find myself being asked, “what should I read?” and so here is my attempt at what I think Eastern Orthodox Christians living in Canada should read. This list is not exhaustive, and if there is anything anyone reading this thinks should be added, please let me know.

  1. First on the list should have been the Bible!

    Thanks for preparing the list.

Does the church still have a library where people can borrow the suggested books? Under Father Polychroniades we did have a library which was open after every service, but under Father Rougas the library closed.

I do own and have read several of the books you suggested and will try to get some of the others from the public library.

My husband and I are still afraid of Covid, so I don’t attend services, but am still a member.

    • I assumed everyone would know to read their Bible daily, but I’ll add it to the list in future updates lol. There still is a library downstairs; if someone were to ask, I’m sure it could be opened for them – but I don’t know if the books on my list would be down there. We have a Church Bookstore where some can be purchased, or most can be found on Amazon. I’m sorry to hear you’re still afraid; if you ever want to meet up so I can communicate to you that Orthodox temples are the last place on earth we should have any fear, send me an email, and we can meet up. The Liturgy gives us the Medicine of Immortality. It is the demonic temptations that put these evil thoughts in our minds, and they do this to keep us away from Christ, the only source of True Healing
